First Prototype Hardware proof of concept completed.
Spectranext First Prototype PCB

Initial hardware design and proof of concept completed. Spectranext currently works exactly as Spectranet, just over Wi-Fi.

Beta Testing Early tests were successful and the main hardware issues were fixed.

Limited units were tested by early adopters across real Spectrum setups. The tests were successful and gave useful feedback before production.

Observed and fixed issues:

  • Lack of pass-through, which most users need.
  • ZX Spectrum +2 support was missing.
  • Wi-Fi was not functioning properly on one setup.

Small Production Batch The first batch of 50 Spectranext devices was produced.

The first proper production batch was manufactured as a deliberately small run. The goal was to validate the hardware, packaging, fulfillment, and real demand before committing to a larger batch.

This batch followed successful trials on real machines, including 48K, 128K, +2 and +3 models. The cartridge bundle includes the free multiplayer companion game, Unbound.

First Batch Sale Current Phase The first public batch will be made available through selected stores.

The first manufactured devices will be made available through selected distributors. This keeps the initial release controlled and makes it easier to support early buyers directly.

No wider preorders are being taken yet. The next batch will wait until the first sale is complete and early feedback has been reviewed.

First Batch Feedback Upcoming Feedback from first-batch owners will be collected before the next run.

After the first batch reaches buyers, feedback will be reviewed carefully. Any hardware, firmware, packaging, or setup issues found in the field should be fixed before committing to a larger manufacturing run.

Preorders remain closed until that feedback has been processed. The next batch may follow after a short delay once any required fixes are ready.

General Production Upcoming The next devices will be manufactured in the confirmed batch size.

Orders from the next batch window will be manufactured as a new production run, with the final quantity based on confirmed demand.

New Features Upcoming More networking, SDK, and hardware capabilities.

Continuous development of new capabilities based on community feedback. Enhanced networking features, expanded SDK, and additional hardware revisions.
